As you know, Living The Story is the theme for the year. You also know serving our Communities is a key pillar in our Foundational Principles. Last year at kick off we gave you three $20 bills and asked you to pay it forward as a way to kick of the Power Foundation year.

Here is what I would like you to do this weekend, as Saturday or Sunday are best days for this activity. I would also ask you to involve your kids (if you have them) or other family member, as this is another way to pay it forward, it is a wonderful learning experience for them.

Go into your local coffee shop (Starbucks, Pete’s, etc..), mornings are best because it is usually nuts, there are long lines and people can be grumpy. When you arrive at the register order your stuff, then tell them you want to purchase a $100 gift card. They will ring you up and hand you the card. You hand it right back and quietly ask them to use it for every customer until it is gone. This is important, tell them you want to remain anonymous. Here is the compounding positive to this simple act; first, the person behind the register can’t believe what you have just done, they get so excited because no one ever does that, you just changed their view of the world. Second you get to sit back and watch as customers are blown away by the gratitude of someone they don’t know, it’s likely you just made their day. Also, the coffee shop wins because the customer thinks how cool that is, they tell all their friends. Next, your family actually gets to see gratitude in action (they think you are so cool too!) while they enjoy their coco, coffee, muffin, etc.. and finally you will feel great all day. All this good karma costs you nothing, because you will expense the $100! Please be sure you note on the receipt that it was for Power Foundation when you submit the expense.

Have fun with it! Serving our Employees, Customers & Communities. Live The Story.
