Special thanks to Paul George to honor and empower wounded warriors.

WWP

To help warriors make the most of their benefits and successfully transition to life after injury, we provide warriors with the tools they need to become financially secure. Unlike traditional models of veterans’ services, we identify the warrior’s individual needs, in addition to providing economic empowerment. Our Benefits Service team ensures warriors and their families have information and access to government benefits, as well as our full range of programs and the community resources necessary for successful transition to life after injury.

A key part of this program is support and education for warriors, as well as their family members andcaregivers. We advise warriors on their benefits, along with information on how to access those services through the Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Our service personnel work closely with each agency so they can walk warriors through every step of the process. When a claim is filed, we make sure it is processed correctly the first time and guide injured service members through this crucial part of their transition.

Thank you Paul.

Corporate Visions helps to support Shoe4Africa!  Sarah’s huband, Ross McMahan, will be running in the NY Marathon with PepsiCo team for the benefit of Shoe4Africa. PepsiCo will be the lead sponsor for a team of 60 runners this fall.

The foundation is in the process of raising money to build one of the first dedicated children’s hospitals in Africa.  As you will see from the web site, there are a ton of cool people involved. The actor Anthony Edwards (Goose on Top Gun, ER, etc) is a huge part of this organization, as are actors like Hugh Jackman and many others.  They will all be involved with the PepsiCo team.

Lisa Cummings Donates to the Dogs

Posted by | Blog Updates | No Comments

This month Lisa Cummings has donated once again to Blue Dog Rescue.

Why does this organization deserve funding?:
This is a special donation for a dog called Peaches Honeyblossom. She had no
hair and terrible burns covering her body…just roaming the streets in near
death condition. Now she’s on her way to the good life because of Blue Dog
Rescue.

Blue Dog Rescue is a volunteer organization whose purpose is to end the
needless killing of homeless dogs. In 2006, Austin killed over 12,000 dogs,
cats, puppies, and kittens at one area animal shelter alone. Many of them were
healthy, well-behaved animals who could have made someone a wonderful pet. They
were killed because there wasn’t enough room to keep them until homes could be
found for them.

Blue Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, funded by donations,
fundraisers, and adoption fees, that works to find permanent, loving homes for
homeless dogs in the Central Texas area. All donations are Federal Tax
deductible.

Barbara Dewes Sponsors Tahoe SAFE Alliance

Posted by | Blog Updates | No Comments

In May, Barbara Dewes generously donated to the Tahoe Safe Alliance in order to support tutoring program for high school students. Tahoe SAFE Alliance is a community-based organization providing direct services to victims of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, child abuse and other individuals in crisis. Incorporated as an independent non-profit, 501(c)3 public benefit corporation in 1985, the agency maintains four office sites, one shelter and has 22 staff members and 2 AmeriCorps Volunteers. Tahoe SAFE Alliance believes that every person has the right to live a life free of violence. The agency works to empower victims in reclaiming those rights by providing safety, advocacy, support, and education. Tahoe SAFE Alliance is currently the only agency providing assistance to victims of intimate partner violence and sexual assault in the North Lake Tahoe/Truckee region of California and Nevada and owns/operates the only safe house in the community. All services are free of charge and provided in both English and Spanish.

In 2011, Tahoe SAFE Alliance accomplished many great things including:

  • Provided Direct services to 780 women, man, teens, and children
  • 9 women and 14 children received emergency shelter in our Mountain Rose Safe House
  • Received 508 calls on our 24-hour Community Helpline
  • Provided 98 children with individual and group counseling

Sarah Helps through HelpHOPELive

Sarah McMahan has donated to Courtenay Wallpe, who is a mther in need of a bone marrow tyransplant. Here is her story:
In late 2010, Courtenay Silvergleid Wallpe was diagnosed with a particularly life threatening strain of Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Since that time, the love, encouragement and prayers of family and friends as well as various complementary treatments have helped immeasurably in supporting Courtenay and enabling her to maintain a reasonable quality of life. Unfortunately, she has not been able to achieve remission despite enduring 11 rounds of Vidaza (chemotherapy) and it appears that her only hope to witness her precious boys (Zachary and Zander) grow up is to undergo a Bone Marrow Transplant.
After an extensive visit and tour in March, Courtenay made the decision to undergo the transplant procedure at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, one of the world’s leading bone marrow transplants center. She was incredibly impressed both with the technical skill of the center and the care and concern exhibited for the well being of the patients. Thankfully, a suitable donor match has been identified and Courtenay and her family head to Seattle on May 26th. Courtenay’s process will entail extensive testing, chemotherapy and radiation to prepare her body for the transplant, hospitalization following the transplant to allow for engraftment, and a stay in a private facility for several months to allow for monitoring and recuperation. Her disease is progressing quite rapidly so we are relieved that things are moving along quickly.
Regrettably, insurance will not come close to covering all the costs associated with this five month long process and the Wallpes’ expected out of pocket expenses approximate $100,000. To help offset these uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in Courtenay’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All contributions are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Bone Marrow Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Donations will help defray costs for:
  • Bone marrow donor search
  • Medical expenses of transplant and recovery not covered by insurance
  • Child care for the boys
  • Housing for Courtenay and a caregiver in Seattle during her rehabilitation
  • Travel expenses
  • Alternative treatments to enable Courtenay to better battle the significant side effects of the chemotherapy, radiation and transplant
While Courtenay is battling her disease and worrying endlessly about Zachary (8), Zander (4), and Bryan, we can all help her by alleviating some of the family’s financial burdens. Please consider making a donation today.
Please make checks payable to:

Joe Terry gave a grcious donation to Samaritan’s Purse this July. Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love. Their emergency relief programs provide desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disaster, war, disease, and famine. As we offer food, water, and temporary shelter, we meet critical needs and give people a chance to rebuild their lives.
The community development and vocational programs in impoverished villages and neighborhoods help people break the cycle of poverty and give them hope for a better tomorrow.
