Nicci Nesmith Hammerel Makes a Contribution to Kiva.org

Posted by | Blog Updates | No Comments

Why does this organization deserve funding?:

”Kiva is an organization that connects people through lending to alleviate
poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance
institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create
opportunity around the world.”

It is my belief that sustainable support of women in business and education
results in trickle-down benefits that impact health, children’s education, and
violence in developing nations.

I have donated to the Kiva Foundation to finance a loan for Mariam
Mwamwenda of Kenya to purchase rice, maize flour, wheat flour and cooking oil
to sell in her retail shop.

A year from now, once Mariam has repaid her loan, that money will be used to
finance another entrepreneurial woman in a developing nation to help her pursue
a better life for her and her family.

Kiva is a U.S. 501(c)3 non-profit organization. More information can be found at www.kiva.org.

Congrats Joe & Katie… CVI’s IronCouple!

Posted by | Blog Updates | No Comments

Congratulations to Joe and his wife, Katie, for completing the Ironman in Florida over the weekend in blazing times!  Joe completed the race in a blistering 11:07, beating his previous best time by a whopping 1:02.  This was Katie’s first Ironman, and she completed it in 12:36!  Note that Katie’s 2.4 mile swim was faster than Joe’s, and she kicked his rear in the marathon too.  Good thing for Joe there’s a 112 mile bike ride!

Great accomplishment, Katie and Joe. You are the only husband/wife team that I know who competes in Ironman Triathlons together;  I guess that makes you an Ironcouple.  Wow!

Support Joe & Katie in the Ironman Florida…

With the assistance of local partners, Invisible Children has identified gaps in humanitarian assistance that currently exist in the LRA-affected regions of DR Congo. The projects being funded will directly protect local communities and make rehabilitation accessible to children formerly abducted by the LRA.

Approximately 12,000 people participated in the walk and the foundation raised $1.5M.

Heart disease and stroke are the nation’s number one and three killers. Your donation will immediately help save the lives of men, women and children who are affected by these diseases.
