CVI Supports Project MANA’s “Let’s Talk Turkey” Drive

In total, the CVI Team sponsored 56 families through Project MANA’s Turkey Drive 2011.   Thanks everyone for the generosity this Thanksgiving!

CVI will once again be supporting Project MANA’s  “Let’s Talk Turkey” event! Project MANA is a hunger relief organization serving the North and West Shores of Lake Tahoe and Truckee.  This year Corporate Visions has sponsored a family on behalf of each of our employees and their families.  In all, 34 local families will receive a traditional Thanksgiving meal on November 19th.  We encourage each of you to ‘match’ our sponsorship, if you so choose, by visiting the site listed below and contributing or, if you live locally, turkey donations will be accepted through November 18th.

About Project MANA’s  Let’s Talk Turkey Drive:

Project MANA’s annual Thanksgiving distribution for families in need will take place Saturday, Nov. 19. Last year, 600 households were able to provide a Thanksgiving meal for their families, thanks to the community’s generosity. Because of the economy, Project MANA is expecting to serve even more families this year. Distributions in Truckee, Incline Village and Kings Beach include a frozen turkey and all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Make-A-Wish Thank You

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation’s mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish®experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer. Since its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 250,000 children around the world.

Although it has become one of the world’s most well-known charities, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has maintained the grassroots fulfillment of its mission.

A network of nearly 25,000 volunteers enable the Make-A-Wish Foundation to serve children with life-threatening medical conditions. Volunteers serve as wish granters, fundraisers, special events assistants and in numerous other capacities.

As the Foundation continues to mature, its mission will remain steadfast. Wish children of the past, present and future will have an opportunity to share the power of a wish®.

Mike Miller and Family Make a Generous Donation to Bethel Express of America Inc.

Why does this organization deserve funding?:

Bethel Express (a 100% volunteer organization) serves some of the most ’needy’
people in the city of Rochester……the kids – aged 6-16. The common demonitator
among all the kids in the program is they come from homes with no father; for
most of them their mothers are absent their lives or have abondened their
parental responsibilities.

The volunteers within the organization become the kids advocates and take on
the parental responsibilities. They attend parent/teacher nights for the kids;
ferry them from home to sports programs/music programs or any other after
school activities the kids are involved in. They also provide homework support
and mentoring to ensure the kids have a shot at a successful future.

What’s amazing about this program is the success rate of the kids. For the
past 15 years that the program has been in existence, they have a 90+%
graduation rate from High School – in a city where the graduation rate has been
as low as 30% and in 2010 reached a high of 42%. Additionally, over 50% of the
kids go on to graduate from College and come back to the program as active
mentors and volunteers.

Every Saturday morning, the kids receive a hot breakfast – for many of the
kids, it’s the only hot breakfast they receive all week – for a few of them
it’s the only hot meal for the week.

The Miller family loves being involved in the this program….we love to see
the positive impact it’s having for the kids it serves….but it’s also having a
huge impact on our lives as well.

Dear Jonathan,

I want to personally thank you for your life-changing support to help poor children receive the free cleft surgery their families could never afford.

I also want you to know how honored we are that you have chosen to support our mission. Friends like you are truly changing the world for hundreds of
thousands of boys and girls born with clefts. Thanks to you, these children are receiving new smiles and second chances at life.

Most of the children we help can be scheduled for surgery within 24 hours. Many of our patients shed tears of joy when their surgery is completed, knowing that their long nightmare of living with a cleft is finally over.

I wish you could be there to see the children smile for the first time in their lives — it would warm your heart and reaffirm the importance of reaching out to
children. Instead, I will send you a photo in a few months of a child who was helped by your generosity so you can see the permanent difference you’ve made
in his or her life.

Just imagine the joy you’ve brought to a poor family by reaching out across the world — doesn’t that bring a smile to your face, too? Many thanks again from our small staff here at Smile Train — and the 100,000+ children we hope to help this year!
